Selecting songs to shuffle
Question : I often set my
program to shuffle all the
songs, but find it jarring when
Christmas music pops into the
mix. Is there a way to make
iTunes skip these holiday
albums when it randomly
shuffles my music?
Answer : The Christmas season starts
earlier every year, but hearing
Grandma Got Run Over by a
Reindeer in October is even
more jarring than hearing it in
But there's a way to block
tracks you don't want to hear in
the random-shuffle rotation.
Recent versions of iTunes
include a "skip when shuffling"
setting that you can turn on for
individual tracks or whole
albums within your music
To take an individual track
out of the shuffle mode, click on
its name in your iTunes library
window, go to the File menu
and select Get Info. Click the
Options tab in the box and put a
check mark in the box next to
"Skip when shuffling."
Click on the OK button to
close the Info box.
If you want to put an entire
album or genre on the bench,
click on its name in the iTunes
browser window. Go to the
iTunes File menu, select "Get
Info" and click "Yes" in the box
when iTunes asks if you want to edit information for multiple items. Go
to the bottom of the Multiple Item Information box to "Skip When Shuffling."
put a check next to it and choose "Yes" or "No" from the drop-down menu.
